Kimberley Renicks – Sports For Champions
On Wednesday 13th February we were extremely lucky to welcome Kimberley into our school. Kimberley is a gold medal winner in the Commonwealth Games and has represented both Scotland and the UK in the World Cup and the British Open for Judo.
Each class had time with Kimberly and were put through their paces (including the adults), to complete a series of exercises for a minute at a time. The children completed a set of spotty dog exercises, climb the hill leg drives, half push ups and star jumps.
After all of the classes had completed their exercises, we all listened to Kimberley talk about how she had got to where she was today; it was very inspiring. Kimberley spoke about how she had been training since she was 4 years old and how she needs to persevere with her training and ensure that she eats healthily to be able to continue to compete. Then Kimberley showed us some of her moves! Two volunteers from Year 2 helped her demonstrate some Judo moves and were even able to flip Kimberley themselves! A quote from a Year R child was “wow, she must be strong”. The children were extremely excited and were all asking about when they can do Judo.
If this is something your child is interested in, please visit https://www.britishjudo.org.uk/club-finder/ to find your nearest club.
Thank you to Kimberley Renicks and to all of the children, and to parents who kindly sponsored their children. We were able to raise a fantastic £1,848.10 which we are discussing the best way to spend for the children of our school.
What a fantastic and fun morning!
