Geography
At Elson Infant School, our aim for Geography is to immerse children in their own locality as well as teach them about other countries and continents, whilst also helping them to understand their place in the World. We are reflective of the different cultures, communities, religions and traditions that different countries and continents celebrate and we link Geography teaching through RE and History, as well as other foundation subjects.
Here are some children creating flags to celebrate St George’s Day – The Patron Saint Day of England
We aim to inspire children to be curious and find fascination with different places around the World as well as where they live. Across Elson Infant School we sometimes use ‘Window Swap’ to ‘see’ into a variety of places and the children are encouraged to make educated guesses as to where they think it is that they can see. The children are able to look at particular types of building, clothes and weather patterns to guess where the video is showing.
In Year R, the children were excited to learn about the countries taking part in the World Cup. They used a map to locate some of the countries and looked at the flags associated with some of them. They also found out some facts about each country.

Final Straw Workshop Jan 2024
Year 2 had a special visit from Final Straw Foundation. Linked to their current topic, the children learnt about the impact of plastic pollution on our environment and learnt ways they can help to try to minimise the amount of plastic entering our local seas and wider oceans. The children were so enthused and loved their mini beach clean. Click the link to learn more about this wonderful charity
