Music

Music

We offer a wide range of musical opportunities for all pupils. Every child will access some aspect of music every week within their daily routine. Most classes begin their day with a dance warm-up, where children move and express themselves to music, getting their minds and bodies ready and focussed for the day. All year groups have plenty of opportunity to play instruments and sing as part of the music curriculum. The whole school also join together every week to learn new songs in our singing assembly. We also offer the pupils the chance to perform in front of a variety of audiences.

As part of our teaching tool, we use charanga, which is a great way to explore all aspects of music from graphic notation to musical expression, where pupils can form their own opinions and ideas about music. Currently, Year 1 also receive tuition from the Hampshire Music Service. This term they will be learning bamboo tamboo!

Please look out for our wider opportunities to get the pupils involved in more music.
You could sign up to Rocksteady and become part of a rock band or sign up to our school choir, which will be starting up again in Autumn 2. There will be more opportunities opening throughout the year so keep an eye on our newsletter or emails for any new information about how get involved.

This year, we would like to celebrate music outside of school. If your child plays an instrument or sings, have achieved any certificates or performed to the public, please let us know so we can celebrate this in school.

We celebrated World Music Day today.  This morning we listened to Jimi Hendrick on the playground, he is our musician of the month! Some classes did some music scribbles. We listened to ‘The Planets’ and the children drew what they felt and heard.  We also listened and danced along to our favourite songs!  A great day was had by everyone!
