Computing
Computing is a fundamental skill and at Elson Infant School, we aim to provide our pupils with an early foundation to participate in an ever-changing digital world.
Our Computing curriculum is designed to develop the children’s understanding of technology within their lives and the benefits technology brings. At Elson Infant School, we use Purple Mash, which is an award-winning website for primary school children. It contains a wide range of age-appropriate creative software tools for writing, drawing, coding, animating, blogging and more. Included within Purple Mash is the EYFS platform, Mini Mash, which our Year R children become familiar with, in preparation for Key Stage 1.
In Year 1 and Year 2, we follow the Purple Mash Computing Scheme of Work which is a comprehensive set of resources aligned to the National Curriculum for Information Technology, Digital Literacy and Computer Science. The children are taught during discrete Computing lessons, and then have opportunities to develop the transferable skills within other areas of the curriculum.
Online safety is taught throughout the year, across all year groups. We take also part in Safer Internet Day each February. Throughout their time at Elson Infant School, the children gain a deeper understanding of how to be safe online and what to do if problems arise.

IT Suite Sep 2023
We are so happy to share our new computing suite with you. Without the support of our families and our PTFA, this would not have been possible. A huge thank you to our families for your continued support with fundraising and to the PTFA or hosting a fantastic range of events across the year! Year 2 have loved creating their stories on the laptops.
